The Taniwha Type Foundry is a new venture by Paekakariki Press to make further use of the two Monotype Casters that we acquired from Harry McIntosh of SpeedSpools, Edinburgh. Whenever we have had the caster set up for a particular job, we have been running off a couple of quarter strength founts for sale.
Our Monotype Composition caster and Super caster are now installed and running in our casting room.

In addition to the world of Monotype, we also have a Ludlow Caster. This casts slugs rather than individual letters, and we have quite a good range of display faces available.

In Maori mythology, taniwha (Maori pronunciation: ['tanifa]) are beings that live in deep pools in rivers, dark caves, or in the sea, especially in places with dangerous currents or deceptive breakers. They may be considered highly respected kaitiaki (protective guardians) of people and places, or in some traditions as dangerous, predatory beings.
